Location
Buckhannon is located in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, just
two hours fifteen minutes south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and one hour
forty-five minutes north of Charleston, West Virginia. Buckhannon is readily
accessible by interstate highway. Located within ninety minutes of Buckhannon
are numerous ski resorts, state parks, national forests and whitewater
rafting opportunities.
History
Buckhannon was established in 1816 and chartered by the Virginia Assembly
in 1852. Buckhannon was incorporated by Act of the Legislature, March
9 1933. Buchannon was named by the first white chief of the Delaware Indians
during the Border War, whose favorite hunting grounds were located near
the present site of the city.
